● 摘要:
Experiments show that cultural knowledge correlates with learning, and even with test scores. Simply put: a student with a well-rounded knowledge of the world performs demonstrably better as a language student than a student who learns only language-learning and test-taking skills. Comprehension requires prior knowledge. Cross-curricular and cross-cultural content is not merely an added bonus for language learners; it is a motivational factor that allows students to learn better. Teaching content IS teaching language.
In this presentation, audience members will learn how Time Zones, a new integrated skills series for teenagers, uses content taken from National Geographic to offer students a new way of language learning, with an increased focus on learning about the world while learning language.
